Danish Radio Broadcasting headquarters - open atrium
Reception area with a strong brand feel for Danish Radio Broadcasting
THE CLIENT BRIEF
This is the first area that welcomes you, when entering the building. It is essential that the interior creates an impression of something recognizable and visually relatable
OUR SOLUTION
We used the DR identity color, an energetic red, as an overall theme in the design.
The arrival room: This area is meant as a waiting and drop-in area, and a meeting room for informal meetings.
Newsroom: the news department in DR needed a new space plan, with more flexible work spaces, drop-in work spots and marked zones for the editorial staff. We used the red architectural details as inspiration, and established significant red zones, in various shades of red. All work desk tops are a dark, muted red – to create a level of calm in a space filled with people and technical equipment.
Lounge and light installation: In this end of the inner plaza the light is poor in the winter season, and the area is not much in use. DR wanted a light installation to both brighten up the space and decorate it.
Our sculptural light element is inspired by cathode ray tubes from old fashioned television sets. In the way it is hung, it is meant to be seen as a changing, interesting image, both by people in the building and passers by, outside. The lounge is now widely used, from early morning to late night. The color scheme is inspired by the blue concert hall, and the mossy green lawns outside.
